About School of Data Management, Analysis and Representation 2019
The research community in Egypt is experiencing a significant shortage of data production and management expertise, so the Societal Indicators program continues to organize the second session of the” School of Management, Analysis and Representation of Social Data” for the second consecutive year, which contributes to building cadres capable of enhancing expertise in social science data. This year, we are organizing the school in cooperation with Info Times organization in an effort to develop and enrich the school’s content, especially the practical aspect of data representation and exploration.
About Societal Indicators:
One of Daftar Ahwal Center for Archiving and Documentation programs, It works on building and making social databases, indicators and statistical forecasts on social issues and topics in Egypt available. It considers the individual and his relationship with society as the key element in making a social event. The program also develops participatory activities to enhance data analysis and management capabilities and to build information design in a professional manner.
About Info Times:
Info Times is a leading company in the field of producing data-driven press content and providing data design services to Arab press organizations. It was established in 2012 and has trained more than 3,000 journalists in the Arab world in data journalism skills in cooperation with several international organizations. Info Times also won the best data journalism team of the year from the Global Editors Network last year, making it the only Arab organization to have won the award since its inception.
School of Data Management, Analysis and Representation Objectives:
1. Preparing cadres (academic, human rights, research institutions, press and individuals with interests in the field of social sciences) capable of managing and analyzing social data.
2. Disseminate a culture of data production and availability (within a minimum of three research institutions).
3. Space for creating relationships and participatory frameworks (academic institutions – community organizations – individuals).
4. Enhancing the channels of access for research groups and institutions.
5. Enhance the presentation skills of the program team in training.
6. Marketing of societal indicators program outputs.
7. Support the provision of job opportunities for the competencies in the field of data management and analysis.
8. Selecting a trainee to be appointed within the program team.
What School of Data Management, Analysis and Representation Provide
In addition to the scientific material and hands-on training during the study, the School of Data Management, Analysis and Representation for the year provide:
Graduation project: There will be a limited information project for a social subject according to the trainees’ choice, A plan will be set to work on it, develop and finalize it during the training period, and there will be a media space to publish the project of each trainee on the Daftar Ahwal platform with reference (if the trainee agrees to do so).
Graduation certificate: A technical graduation certificate will be issued from Daftar Ahwal in Data, Archiving and Statistics management.
Job Opportunities:
First: societal indicators program job opportunity: according to the 2019 plan only, there will be a “gradual” opportunity to recruit a full-time researcher for the Societal Indicators program (all school workshops are required), the graduation certificate can be used to apply to other workplaces, and there is also the possibility of issuing a nomination letter From Daftar Ahwal management addressed to other civil society organizations if so requested.
Second: Info Times Job Opportunity: There will be a full-time step-by-step job to recruit Info Times data researcher.
Conditions for enrolling in school
The second course of the School of Data Management, Analysis and Representation adds new categories this year, targeting students, recent graduates and beginners interested in the field of applied social data. Graduates from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, the Faculty of Commerce, Statistics Department, or those who have experience in the field of data production, researchers in the academic community are preferred. This is in addition to the allocation of a maximum of 4 seats for candidates from academic institutions, press or human rights, provided that the conditions of application are as follows:
• A recent student or graduate preferably graduates of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Faculty of Commerce, Department of Statistics, or those with experience in the field of data production, researchers in the academic community, in addition to journalists interested in this applied field.
• Age, year of graduation or experience is not required.
• Full-time availability to be able to attend and practical application due to the intensive applied content within each workshop.
• Proficiency in the skills of dealing with “Microsoft Office” programs especially Excel (the school is targeted for beginners as well).
• Able to work on data entry and desire to develop it as a minimum of the role.
• Language: Good reading, writing and communication skills in English.
• Have the desire to develop, innovate and care to follow up on societal issues or areas of social and human sciences in Egypt (such as health, education, transport, issues, harassment, child trafficking, and archaeological crimes).
